Today we talked a lot about the "theme" of a story. We decided it is possible to have a story fall under more than one of these categories. The students worked hard picking out which one they felt fit best.

This would be a great discussion for you to have with your child at home. What theme does the book YOU are reading fit under?

Yummy Pumpkin Doughnuts!

Thank you, Cora and Dittmar Farms Mill Creek Valley, for the yummy treats today! Everyone loved them! Some of us were able to stretch the snack out so that it lasted most of the day!

Welcome Steve Cotler

Steve Cotler came to visit last week. It was fun to listen to him talk about writing books. We are reading his first Cheesie Mack book in class. Check out our pictures!

Close Read

We spend a lot of time being detectives in our room. Detectives look for details and clues which is exactly what we do when we do close reads. Ask your child to show you how close reads are done.

Last Thursday several people attended Literacy Night. Thank you to Paul and Diane Sipiera from the Planetary Science Foundation for speaking. Students and their guests also were able to do some writing about space, do a puzzle, and use stickers to label planets as well as eat space ice cream. Thanks to everyone who attended!

Vocabulary words

Today we broke in to five groups and found the definitions to our vocabulary words. After that, each group got up in front of the class and acted their word out. It was fun to figure out who had what word. The words were rushes, ruffled, patched, jointed, and bristled. Can you guess what groups had which word?
